It looks like we are free but the truth is we are caged in our own inaction! We need to do better as young people of Malawi!
Sometime I look at my Country Malawi and am ever convinced from the many discussions and arguments I have listened to and been part of that our biggest problem is POLITICS.
Here is the funny part though, It appears that everyone knows the problem with Malawi and we all have the solutions but NO ONE wants to be the one to finally put the solutions to work!
We can not just complain about politics and hoping one day good politicians will appear from somewhere (Heaven) and still continue to call politics a dirty game which we can not play in.
What is a dirty game when you have taken a week without bathing or washing because you are waiting for the players to clean the water they are bathing in as you watch them bath?
"I open most of my 20+ Whatsapp group that I am in and what dorminates te discussion even in the ones that are considered mature groups surprise me.
We are so deep into trivia and petty stupuid jokes that when someone throws in what looks like a real issue of interest, no one will comment until another joke or so called breaking news finds its way into the group.
Its surprising that drinking and sex topics are the main issues the youth in Malawi spend most of the times discussing.
Its 2018 and we have few months to try and change the nerrative by putting into power people who have the welfare of the majority of the people in our country, (The youth) at heart.
I am not sure how many of us are seriously considering to be that one person who wants to represent their community as a member of parliament or a ward representative?
I will remind you of the open letter I wrote you few years ago because it is very important today, right now.
In that letter, I said,
"The 21st century thinking must be different from the 19th century way if we are to make meaningful changes in this country. It is therefore high time we reworked our systems and rethink our contribution to national building. This country needs a total revolution. And you must be a member of this revolution.
This revolution will start with you and me and the rest of our generation.
We must rise above Envy, jealousy, betrayal and hate.
We must rise above personal gains and tokenism.
we must put the plight of this nation first.
My fellow "Lost Generation members"
Drinking all weekend, watching EPL matches all the time, Series and Tv shows all day, playing FIFA all night will not move this country forward.
Owning the latest smartphones or cars does not add to the wealth of a nation that is never exporting anything.
Trying to look rich will not make us rich or happy. It will only make us more miserable.
Life is far more above beyond "Peace"
We must look at our challenges and develop local solutions while thinking of making global impact.
Posting on Twitter and Instagram for likes will not pay bills.
And paying bills through "body services" will only increase our population and the AIDS pandemic we are facing.
Its up to us to decide a direction for this country and for how we want this nation to be in the next few years.
Aid is gone. And we can not keep begging from our so called "Colonial masters"
We are future leaders? Yes! This is the future they told us about.
Long and boring Yes. But I have not even told you half of what I thought I could share with you.
I am sure you will share this with more of members of our generation as we share all the scandals that break.
I am here to connect with all young people who are willing to see change and be part of that change.
Leave a comment or send me a message if you are joining active politics this year.
We need you.
Waiting to hear from you.
